Lewis' Pundit Predictions

Hello everyone and welcome back to the predictions league. For those who are first time readers just a small breakdown of the format, each week me and my opponent for the week will predict the outcomes of the other matches that week, a correct score is worth 25 points and a correct outcome is worth 10points. At the end of the Super League the person with the highest points tally will win an Alt Ulix box. Week 5 saw my take on Luke Athiko who piloted Von Schtook. I lost the game 5-3 with a few unfortunate black jokers through out the game, however Luke picked his schemes perfectly and there wasn’t much I could do to deny his Claim Jump on the Valedictorian even though I thought I’d removed it from the game position wise turn 2. I’ve had a few rough games with Marcus recently and while I know luck is always a part of this game, Marcus just feels more beholden to it unlike Euripides, so for this reason I’m going to lay off the beastmaster for a couple of weeks. In the prediction league I scored 70 points while Luke scored 80 points which puts him in pole position at the minute. Also as a quick note this was my first time playing Luke and like Yan in week 3 it was a great game and is definitely a match I can’t wait to play face to face in the future.
My opponent for week 6 is someone I’ve had the pleasure of playing face to face on almost a weekly basis. Steven Thomson is one of my meta’s usual suspects and can most often be found playing Guild and going against any and all advice I give him. However for the Super League he is the sole representative of the Explorers Society, getting ready for their full release later this month and trying to cement his place on Team Scotland for the 6 Nations. Our game takes place on Tuesday 10th of November and will see Explorer’s McCabe take on Nekima in my first ever run out of her.
The pool for week 6 is:
Standard Corrupted Leylines
Hidden Martyrs
Sabotage
Leave Your Mark
Vendetta
Breakthrough
Jamie Varney vs Rice Chowder
Another potential battle for best bayou when all is said and done, this will be a close due to Rice’s faction knowledge and Jamie’s sheer game skill. Jamie had a large win last week while Rice fell to UK master Radek, so Rice will have the motivation to get back to winning ways. Sadly for him I’ve seen Varney in a curry house – the rice never lasts.
Lewis’ Prediction: 7-4 win for Jamie
Steven’s Prediction: 6-5 win for Jamie
----------------------------------
Carl Lee vs Karl Barley
It’s showdown of the name spelling, which spelling will reign supreme? The fate of Carls and Karls everywhere rests on it. Rumour has it the loser has to change their name to the winner’s spelling, so you know they’re gonna draw. This will be a tough game as it’s two factions that can really achieve the strat. Carl has the knowledge of Ressers and how to stop them but Ressers have alot of denial tricks so that favours Karl. All i know is a some one named Carl/Karl will probably win.
Lewis’ Prediction: 4-3 win for Carl
Steven’s Prediction: 5-4 win for Carl
----------------------------------
Andrew Humphrey vs Radek Bry
Andrew lost his game last week but kept the score closer then in some of his games while Radek won against his regular sparring partner Rice. I think Radek only has a choice of two masters has he’s wanting to use each master once in the opening weeks. This will be interesting to see the difference in models for each player although you can guarantee the Midnight Stalker will be rearing his head someone on the table as he’s so good for both schemes and strat.
Lewis’ Prediction: 6-3 win for Radek
Steven’s Prediction: 7-3 win for Radek
----------------------------------
Alasdair Cunniffe vs Adrian Mills
Both players were on wrong end of a moderate points loss last week so both will be looking to return to form this week. I think Alasdair is best placed to do it, as not only does he have Colette at his disposal but the CR7 just don’t have the movement needed to score the strat reliably. Alasdair could potentially build his crew to limit vendetta to the effigy only which would make life difficult for Adrian more so then the rest of the pool already does. This pool is favourable to Arcanists in all senses and I can’t see anything but a blue win.
Lewis’ Prediction: 6-2 win for Alasdair
Steven’s Prediction: 6-3 win for Alasdair
----------------------------------
Steve Johnston vs Dan Brown
Steve beat local meta opponent Kai last week in the battle of the ressers dropping a zero keyword Seamus list into McMourning. I can see him continuing his win streak on this week taking on team blue. Ressers have good denial and Von Schtook could lead the line on this front better then most.
Lewis’ Prediction: 6-2 win for Steve
Steven’s Prediction: 7-4 win for Steve
----------------------------------
AJ Barr vs Craig Colley
Both players saw themselves take home convincing wins in Week 5 so will be looking to keep the momentum up. This game wouldn’t look out of place on the top tables of a face to face tournament so I can see this one going really close. AJ knows his faction and what to drop when like the back of his hand. Craig while new to Ressers seems to have hit the ground running. This game will be too tight to call and can see the guys grinding out a big score draw.
Lewis’ Prediction: 7-7 draw
Steven’s Prediction: 6-4 win to AJ
----------------------------------
Luke Cocksedge vs Kai Young
These two are two of the nicest guys on the scene and this will be a real gentlemans game, until Luke drops Pandora, then Kai will cry. I believe the positive record lies with Luke when these two have played before so Kai will want to correct that and also he’ll want to help me out on my quest for best Neverborn (it’s not going well). Another game that will be too close to call, I can see it coming down to a couple of points.
Lewis’ Prediction: 5-4 win to Kai
Steven’s Prediction: 5-4 win to Luke
----------------------------------
Rich Walters vs Stef McGlen
Rich took a narrow win against my opponent for this week while Stef was beaten convincingly by AJ. Both factions have the movement and bullshit to excel in this pool but I think Rich will keep the game under control from early on and that could lead to a big snowball effect for him which could be Stef to overcome. Alot of this game could be decided by the masters selected, I’ve said I can see Rich controlling this but if Stef plays Asami then she has the potential to halt the snowball and throw it back.
Lewis’ Prediction: 7-3 win for Rich
Steven’s Prediction: 7-7 draw
----------------------------------
Yan Pietrzak vs James Noillavert
James was an early high flier in the league showing what the Guild could do effectively while Yan’s results have been solid considering he was such an unknown quantity before the league results started coming in. As I’ve said about other 10T players I really feel that Asami is strong in this pool and having used her in our game I know Yan can pilot her really well. What James will use is more of a choice between Nellie, Lucius and Dashel for this round in my opinion and the scheme marker heavy pool would lean me into Nellie however I don’t know James’ thoughts on her. Another close game but I can see this going the way of the Thunders.
Lewis’ Prediction: 5-4 win for Yan
Steven’s Prediction: 7-4 win for James
----------------------------------
Matt Lewin vs Ross McGinness
When I write this I say it with all my love – this is a game between two of the most tricksy fine margin players I know. Matt is currently unbeaten but Ross is a top player and could change that if the cards fall his way this week. The pool is good for both factions so neither has an edge in it. Ross is trying to keep with keyword only while Matt doesn’t care running loads in each list. I think Matt will just edge it but Ross will keep it extremely close.
Lewis’ prediction: 7-6 win for Matt
Steven’s Prediction: 7-6 win for Ross
----------------------------------
Ollie Hedges vs Luke Athiko
Ollie was the guy to beat until last week when Matt toppled him but in my eyes this will be a minor setback and I fully expect Ollie to push on and podium at the end of it all. As I said earlier Luke managed to beat me in really good game last week. I think Ollie should win this one but Luke will manage to keep it close.
Lewis’ Prediction: 6-4 win for Ollie
Steven’s Prediction: 7-4 win for Ollie
