Lewis' Pundit Predictions

We’re over a month in to the Vassal Super league now and the dust is starting to settle on the table. Giants have fell and shocks have happened but still we come back. For people who don’t know how this works yet each week me and my opponent for the week will predict the outcomes of the other matches that week, a correct score is worth 25 points and a correct outcome is worth 10points. At the end of the Super League the person with the highest points tally will win an Alt Ulix box. Week 4 saw me take on competition for best Neverborn and my Malifaux rival Matt Lewin. My deck totally abandoned me in the game but I was also punished by Matt for some poor placements on my part. I also forgot Marcus had a Mutation upgrade attached so wasnt card cycling for that until turn 4, all in all it was a 6-2 loss. However in the prediction league I scored 90 points to Matt’s 70 with 2 correct scores!

Week 5 sees me take on Luke Athiko who is representing the Ressers well. When repping Faux on the tables of real tournaments (remember those!) Luke often finishes around the mid table but has given himself some good showings including finishing top 1/3 in the 2019 UK Nationals. The game will see my Marcus take on Von Schtook. Marcus has yet to win a game in the league for me and this will be his third outing in 5 weeks so here’s hoping third times a charm.

Prediction League Standings:

Yan Pietzrak 75 points (Week 3)

Matt Lewin 70 points (Week 4)

Lewis Phillips 60 points (4 week average)

Luke Cocksedge 60 points (Week 2)

Steve Johnston 50 points (Week 1)

Lewis’ highest scoring week came in Week 4 scoring 90 points with 2 correct scores and 4 correct results.

The encounter for Week 5 is:

Corner Symbols of Authority

Hidden Martyrs

Let Them Bleed

Claim Jump

Breakthrough

Research Mission.

Jamie Varney vs Karl Adam

Jamie had a really tight game with Radek last week but was on the wrong end of it with a 1 point loss. I can see him bouncing back here as he knows the Ressers inside out while I don’t believe Karl can say the same about Bayou. In my untrained Resser eyes Kirai seems to be Karl’s best chance of what could be considered an upset victory.

Lewis’ Prediction: 5-2 win to Jamie

Luke’s Prediction: 6-3 win to Jamie

----------------------------------

Radek Bry vs Rice Chowder

Regular Vassal face offs between these two means this is another one of those games that could go either way, saying that I just can’t see Rice getting one over on the current UK master in what could be seen as a favorable pool for Outcasts. The narrow win over Jamie last week should see the confidence for an unbeaten spell rise for Radek.

Lewis’ Prediction: 5-2 win for Radek

Luke’s Prediction: 5-4 win to Radek

----------------------------------

Adrian Mills vs Carl Lee

Carl came out narrow victor over high flying super sub Craig Colley last week and I fully expect him to keep the momentum going in this game vs Adrian. As I said in last weeks article I think the CR7 will struggle in symbols as they like to bubble up and aren’t the most maneuverable crew, sadly I think corner deployment will exasperate that. Add in a crew wide eligibility to be Let them Bleed targets I believe the cards may already be stacked against Adrian.

Lewis’ Prediction: 6-1 win for Carl

Luke’s Prediction: 4-3 win for Carl

----------------------------------

Dan Brown vs Andrew Humphrey

Andrew finally managed to get some TP on the board last week by drawing with my Meta mate Kai. I believe the momentum is there and he can go on to score the win here, I said earlier how I think this is an ideal pool for Outcasts and barring the appearance of a couple of Masters in Arcanist this could be a straight forward match.

Lewis’ Prediction: 5-3 win for Andrew

Luke’s Prediction: 5-3 win for Dan

----------------------------------

Craig Colley vs Alasdair Cunniffe

Craig took a narrow loss last week while Alasdair split the spoils with Stef in two close games. I can see this game being Kirai vs Colette, so the game could very well be decided by who’s bullshit hits harder. I don’t think there will be alot in the scoreline and will be a narrow victory, however I will say in Craig’s favour thanks to Kirai’s summoning.

Lewis’ Prediction: 5-4 win for Craig

Luke’s Prediction: 5-3 win for Craig

----------------------------------

Kai Young vs Steve Johnston

Kai managed to get his first TP on the board last week after drawing with Andrew while Steve managed to put a dent in James’ unbeaten Guild dream but beating him in a low scoring game. Often when I write these predictions I try to be as realistic as I can but sometimes blind faith rears its head. I think this will be another low scoring game and will edged out by Kai. Faction knowledge is a strong tool and Ressers are Kai’s home faction so I think this will be enough to see him through.

Lewis’ Prediction: 3-2 win for Kai

Luke’s Prediction: 6-3 win for Steve

----------------------------------

Stef McGlen vs AJ Barr

Both players have got off to a good start to the league and this will be another good test for both them. AJ has been running Zipp alot in the league and this scheme pool seems like another good one for him. I’m not sure who Stef plans to run but Misaki has the speed and tools in keyword to shut down Zipp. I can see this being a one point diff game, in favor of who it’s hard to call. I think just because of the amount of broken shit in 10T Stef will edge it.

Lewis’ Prediction: 5-4 win to Stef

Luke’s Prediction: 4-4 Draw

----------------------------------

James Noillavert vs Luke Cocksedge

James has been flying high with Guild even though he fell to an unexpected defeat last week, while Luke is still UK number one in the UK Rankings. Neverborn have a few good answers for some of what the Guild will throw at them. I think Luke will edge this game out and cause back to back loses for the early high flyer.

Lewis’ Prediction: 6-2 win for Luke

Luke’s Prediction: 4-3 to James

----------------------------------

Steven Thomson vs Rich Walters

Steven lost in a tight game with AJ in week 4 and this is another week where one of my local meta mates and good friends will give a good account of themselves but fall slightly short. Steven’s lack of crew options will punish him in this game from the get go. Rich obviously took my advice and played on webcam to distract his opponent. As I’ve said a few time I believe this pool is ideal for Outcasts and I can see Rich completing the Outcast clean sweep.

Lewis’ Prediction: 6-2 win for Rich

Luke’s Score: 6-4 win for Rich

----------------------------------

Ross McGinness vs Yan Pietzrak

Yan is a really good, tidy player who will be a real force to be reckoned with on the tournament scene when the current world climate finally passes. Ross is one of my most regular sparring partners and is genuinely one of the top players in Scotland and could compete at the very top if he was able to make a few more away day tournaments or Nationals. This will be a class match between two very knowledgeable players. I think sheer experience of the game will see Ross through however.

Lewis’ Prediction: 6-3 win for Ross

Luke’s Prediction: 5-4 win for Ross

----------------------------------

Ollie Hedges vs Matt Lewin

The two unbeaten veterans of the League will come together in a heavyweight match that will be super close. Ollie continues to defy the odds with Guild while Matt is on a 4 game win streak with Pandora so I don’t see Matt changing something that’s not broken. I feel I was unlucky to lose to Matt in the manner I did – bad deck RNG really reared it’s head, he still played the game in the same clean tidy manner I’ve witnessed many times before. Ollie like Matt is a super tidy player and which ever master he settles on he’ll have it working like a well oiled machine,

Lewis’ Prediction: 6-5 win for Ollie

Luke’s Prediction: 6-6 Draw
