Lewis' Pundit Predictions

Hello everybody and welcome to week 4 of the predictions. First of all our customary reminder of how the format works, each week my opponent and I will attempt to predict the scores of the other games happening in our game week, a correct result is worth 10 points and a correct score is worth 25. At the end of the League the person with the highest point tally (mine being average score) will win a Alt Ulix Unicorn and Pixies box. Week 3 saw me take on newcomer to the Malifaux UK scene Yan Pietzrak, where we played a great game of Euripides vs Asami, where the Neverborn giants came out 5-4 winners. In the Prediction league I scored 50 points (one game still to play) and Yan scored 65 (with one left to play).

Week 4 sees me take on my old Guild rival and genuinely one of my best friends on the scene Matt Lewin. Matt has faction hopped a little in 3e playing Guild, Arcanist and currently on a Neverborn fix. I don’t have a good record of results vs Matt but we always have great games. We play on Halloween at 11am and I’m fully expecting to face Pandora in this game. Matt has also gone one further and provided analysis for his score predictions aswell so it’ll be fascinating to see how we do.

The pool for week 4 is:

Flank Symbols of Authority

Vendetta

Leave Your Mark

Sabotage

Spread them Out

Assasinate

Jamie Varney vs Radek Bry

This is a true battle of the Malifaux heavyweights, Radek is the current UK master and as I’ve said before Varney is the GOAT in Malifaux, however this tie I think the newer Master takes it. Outcasts are really maneuverable and the guaranteed drop of the Midnight Stalker is going to be tough for Jamie to deal with, however I do believe this will be a super close game and only a point will separate it. I’m not sure which Bayou master is the best drop here but my gut tells me Ulix or Ophelia. I dont think a loss for either play will slow their momentum by the end though and fully expect both to podium.

Matt Says: This is going to be a tight game I would say both players are true Masters of what they do, no self-proclaimed kings here! This was a tough call, but I am Hedging JFV to win, Radek is fantastic at this game but Jamie has enough experience at this game to not lose his head to one of Radek’s secret Tech plays. This would be a game worth watching!

Lewis’ Prediction: 6-5 win to Radek

Matt’s Prediction: 6-5 win to Jamie

----------------------------------

Karl Barley vs Adrian Mills

Last week both players were on the wrong end of high scoring games, Karl lost 8-1 and Adrian 7-0, while I think both players were unlucky last week I can see Karl picking up the win in this one. Frankly I don’t know if the CR7 have the ability to play this strat as they like to bubble and Symbols doesn’t really like that play style so can see the more mobile Ressers picking up a good victory.

Matt says: For me they are still a unknow quantity as I can’t say I have seen them play and it feels so long ago since I saw anyone play. I had vote for the Guild player! Come on you Reds!

Lewis’ Prediction: 6-2 win for Karl

Matt’s Prediction: 5-3 win for Adrian

----------------------------------

Rice Chowder vs Dan Brown

In week 3 Dan lost to Radek taking the kingslayer dream down with it while Rice is still to play his game at time of writing. These two play alot of Vassal and I believe play each other a fair bit so they’ll know what to expect from each other because of that this has got score draw written all over it.

Matt Says: This will be an insane game! Dan and Reice obviously both very talented players but for me Reice is actually the true kingslayer I have come up against Reice time and time again and I have never seen Reice fail to give the top flight players a sterling game that makes them sweat. He has laid low some of the big names so for me its Reice all day long, will be another one worth a watch.

Lewis’ Prediction: 5-5 draw

Matt’s Prediction: 8-6 win for Rice

----------------------------------

Carl Lee vs Craig Colley

This is another great match up in the games this week. Craig stormed out 8-1 winner last time round while Carl lost in a tight game with Stef. I think Craig is going to be held to a much tighter game this week with Carl, each player probably knows their opponents faction better then what they are playing as they are in each others turf. I know the match up in this one is Misaki vs Kirai and that in itself will be worth watching, however i think team orange have the advantage here.

Matt says: I think Carl has got this, as much as Rezzers are my most hated faction ever because they are obviously busted top tier filth. (Jamie knows it’s true). You cant change where Thunders are at right now and I think Craig is in for a tough game. Unless Carl is doing the honourable thing and leave the versatile models at home. #FixThunders

Lewis’ Prediction: 5-4 win for Carl

Matt’s Prediction: 7-4 win for Carl

----------------------------------

Kai Young vs Andrew Humphrey

Things haven’t got easier for these two as the opening weeks have gone on and both are still waiting for their first TP on the board. While again I think the Midnight Stalker will rear his head I think Kai will be adequately prepared to deal with him, so this week I can see Mr Malifaux Rankings registering his first win.

Matt says: Wow been a tough start to the league for both these guys with big name after big name, hard to call. I am going for Kai to take a late 2 point swing in the end game with Rezzers doing what they do, and well Kai has got to be warmed up now after those last 3 games!

Lewis’ Prediction: 6-2 win for Kai

Matt’s Prediction: 5-3 win for Kai

----------------------------------

Ross McGinness vs Luke Cocksedge

Another heavyweight fight that wouldn’t look out of place on the top table at any tournament, both these players are great friends and top gents. I know that the gae is Ophelia vs Pandora and while I think the Kin have one of the strongest Keyword mechanics in the game, Pandora IMO is the perfect antidote for it. Both players will be on top of their game but sadly for my Scottish compatriot I cant see a way out for him in this game.

Matt says: I would go with Ross but I would be thinking of Luke! Ross has had the better record for me so far but I believe that Luke and Neverborn in this game is a hard match to beat. So played well Luke should be able to control this game. I also have that sinking feeling that I am going to be wrong LOL!

Lewis’ Prediction: 4-3 win for Luke

Matt’s Prediction: 6-5 win for Luke

----------------------------------

Rich Walters vs Luke Athiko

Rich’s results have been a bit sporadic for the ability of the player and I think I’ve worked out why, you cant look at those gorgeous eyes through the computer and it throw you off your game. Luke has been performing admirably over the event but this will be a tough challenge with the versatility the Outcasts can bring. Rich play on video chat for the usual advantage mate. Either way I can see Rich taking this one.

Matt says: Cant call it, if you made me pick I would say Rich… maybe! I think this will be a tight call and I just cant decided Because Rezzers are amazing at the wide game but I think Outcast hit harder when they need to.

Lewis’ Prediction: 5-4 win to Rich

Matt’s Prediction: 6-6 draw

----------------------------------

Alasdair Cunniffe vs Stef McGlen

Stef is giving a good account of himself with 5 points from a possible 9 so far in the lague while Alasdair has been keeping scores tight but is just unable to hold on. I think this game will be another close affair with likely Colette bullshit against 10T bullshit, it’s really a case of whose bullshit sticks first. The most likely outcome in this game is a high scoring draw.

Matt says: Well I had the honour of playing Alasdair in round 1 and I can tell you know that this will be a tight game. Steff will have the power of Thunders and experience behind him but I believe this is going to be a hard one to win! Want them both to pull a win out of this.

Lewis’ Prediction: 6-6 draw

Matt’s Prediction 6-6 draw

----------------------------------

Steve Johnston vs James Noillavert

James has been absolutely smashing it out the park with Guild proving that they aren’t the worst faction as he’s been doing it with many different masters. Steve knows Guild well so that will stand him in good stead however it’s his own faction knowledge he needs to be wary of. Nellie is a really good drop into Ressers and this pool in particular , where as Von Schtook can take this game by the horns.

Matt says: Hard one to call, but for me this one will go to James and I am not going to lie this is because secretly he maybe my hero for smashing face with Guild! Rezers can be a tough run for Guild, so I wonder if we will see a Lady J this round.

Lewis’ Prediction: 6-3 win for James

Matt’s Prediction: 8-6 win for James

----------------------------------

AJ Barr vs Steven Thomson

AJ is another top player whose had a rough start to the super league, while Steven has been doing himself proud with his prep for the Explorers for the 6 nations with the limited options available. With Steven most likely dropping McCabe and AJ likely dropping Zipp there will be plenty of movement shenanigans to assist both crews. I can see AJ getting the narrow win in the end though.

Matt says: Love that we are already seeing Explorers out there in tournaments! Aj for me will take this if he does some pre reading in what they can do not a lot of models not a lot of combinations. Wil be a tough week for Steven as AJ has proved that he has got the skill to play at the top of this Game.

Lewis’ Prediction: 5-4 win for AJ

Matt’s Prediction: 6-4 win for AJ

----------------------------------

Ollie Hedges vs Yan Pietzrak

Ollie has been proving why he is one of the UK’s top players in the Super League currently unbeaten with a faction he’s basically unpracticed with. Yan is a super tidy player who took our game to the final activations of the turn, here in this game he’s pissing in the wind slightly as Ollie will know the 10T like the back of his hands and I can’t see where he picks up the win.

Matt Says: Sorry Jan but for me this is going to go to Ollie “The Smash King” Hedges. Just can’t argue with those results. Ollie has obviously got the measure of Guild and he knows Thunders very well. Just a Consistent champ! Good luck Jan! Will you be the guy to lay low the monster and claim the title of people’s Champion?

Lewis’ Prediction: 8-4 win for Ollie

Matt’s Prediction: 7-2 win for Ollie

----------------------------------

Lewis Phillips vs Matt Lewin

This is going to be a fun game. while the prediction doesnt count for overall score Matt has made one. I on the other hand will save face and say we will draw.

Matt says: The Game I have been waiting for all year! This Game for me is going to be AMAZING, the rivalry has seen some outstanding games between me and my Scottish Love! This time I am playing on Lewis’s home turf in Neverborn he has got the advantage and the experience here and I think he is going to show me how it is really done! I think I may even be cheering him on during are game!

Lewis’ prediction 4-4 Draw

Matt’s Prediction: 8-4 win for Lewis

Here's my own guestimations for round 4.

Jamie Varney 8 vs 0 Adrian Mills Steven Thomson 6 vs 4 Alasdair Cunniffe

Dan Brown 5 vs 6 Radek Bry Ross McGuiness 6 vs 5 Steve Johnston

Matt Cole 3 vs 3 Karl Barley Luke Athiko 4 vs 5 AJ Barr

Kai Young 5 vs 7 Reice Chaudhry Ollie Hedges 5 vs 5 Luke Cocksedge

Stef McGlen 5 vs 4 Carl Lee Matt Lewin 5 vs 6 Rich Walters

James Noilavert 4 vs 3 Andrew Humphrey Lewis Phillips 5 vs 4 Jan Pietrzak
